2-Day Brighton Best-of Walks & Activities

Just an hour south of London, Brighton is both easily accessible and easily overlooked by those coming from out of the country. From its unusually high number of restaurants (and its especially impressive selection of international food) to miles of lively seafront, this city tends to boast a universal sort of appeal. Its vibrant nightlife and abundance of cultural attractions and events are part of every itinerary, but they are far from the only things to be seen and done! If you enjoy a low-key, relaxed approach to traveling, this guide will offer you the freedom to explore the most interesting areas without the pressure of hitting all the "must-sees." This itinerary will take you on rambling walks through historic districts, along the seaside, and even out for a morning in the countryside. You'll get to experience the flavour of the city by mingling in some of its most popular areas, but also be able to enjoy some of the things a casual visitor might gloss over. You will primarily be walking on this trip (both the transportation and the attraction), interspersed with some public transportation and lots of places to sit down for a break or a bite. There will be some expenditure in the form of entrance fees, but transporation costs are minimal and we have tried to provide affordable suggestions for food. For the most part, it's a budget-friendly guide. What you can expect: The Royal Pavilion, an unmistakably iconic palace, but also its surrounding buildngs and grounds. The Brighton Marina, but not for the cinemas or casinos or shopping. Ditchling Beacon, a hill up on the South Downs. Look down at the city from afar! The Lanes, not just for shopping. Leisurely walks through cosy neighbourhoods, overlooking the sea, along the sea, and much more. If any of this sounds appealing, give this guide a go!

3-Day London Tour for Olympic Visitors

This 3-day itinerary concentrates on the East End of London, close to the main Olympic venues, and coincidentally close to the city’s Roman origins as Londinium. It is a celebration of all that is quintessentially British and takes a side trip to visit Greenwich. Location for the Olympic equestrian events, it reveals the United Kingdom’s great maritime history, and is of course from where all time is measured. It is fitting that London should be the Host City for the Olympic Games in 2012, making it the first city ever to host the games three times. The year also marks the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, as only the second British monarch to celebrate 60 years on the throne. The last Olympic Games to be held in London took place in 1948, after the Games had taken an involuntary 12-year absence due to World War II, but the first London Olympics took place in 1908. Originally due to be held in Rome, they were relocated at the 11th hour following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906. In 1948, the United Kingdom won almost 100 more medals than its nearest rival, the United States. While it seems unlikely to achieve such accolades again any time soon, one thing is for certain; in tourism terms, the United Kingdom is a definite medal winner, and London has taken the gold in 2012.

3 Days in Brussels - The grand sites via the path less trodden

Brussels is a cultureless city, only worth passing through to get to somewhere else, right? Wrong! Whether you are a tourist or you live there, this guide is the friend that you wish you had- the one that knows the real Brussels, and that will show you that there is so much more to Brussels than EU institutions, Jean Claude Van Dam and waffles. How can you avoid the big brand chocolate shops to find the best artisanal hot chocolate in Brussels? Where can you buy 2nd hand Belgian beer glasses for a fraction of the price in the shops? While you’ll get to see all the main sites like the Grand Place, Mannekin Pis and The Atomium, I’ll highlight the more overlooked parts of Brussels along the way. Old antique markets and beer tastings a stone’s throw away from hidden wall murals and handmade Chinese noodles- by going off the beaten path with this guide , you don’t have to break the bank to get quality and fun. Written by a vegetarian food-enthusiast, the guide has a particular focus on excellent food, always recommending places with good vegetarian options, whether local or international. Brussels is big enough to be an interesting holiday spot, but small enough to walk around, so this guide lets you discover the city on foot and by public transport.. Where I’ll take you: A very popular area in Brussels is the arty, Bohemian neighbourhood St. Gilles, but most tourists never even set foot there. I’ll show you where to go to enjoy a lazy brunch at the market, or enjoy an evening in Brussels' best beer bar. The Congo might not be a Belgian colony anymore, but the link between the two countries is still strong, and there is a thriving Congolese community outside of the main tourist drag. I’ll tell you where you can eat great African food there. Want to know what a Belgian village is like without leaving Brussels? I’ll take you to a beautiful village in the outskirts for lunch. And of course, I’ll take you around the centre, pointing out the best and most hidden parts. If you

Discover Mont St Michel: 2-Night Stay

The Abbey of Mont St Michel receives over 3 million visitors annually. There is a way when you first approach the Abbey, your mind cannot comprehend how such a 'rock' could last over the centuries. Perhaps that is why it is called by many, the 8th Wonder of the World. It sits in The Baie du Mont St Michel -- an area of French coastline that is alongside the waters of the English Channel. Terrific storms and gale force winds roar through here. The tides are some of the highest in the world. Construction? Began in the 900s and it is over 1,000 years old. It is said when the tides move in, it sounds like the thunder of horses ... the Abbey becomes isolated and completely surrounded by water ... and people come to BE on the rock for this experience. It is magic. You can find high tide calendars online but do know to be isolated on 'the rock' you'll need to book a year ahead! Others like to 'pilgrimage' across the sands from the continent -- this is available with a guide who knows the waters and the shifting sands. It is magnetic for too many reasons to count -- and the region is spectacular, from gastronomic fare scattered across the countryside to historical wonders. We have lived in the Baie du Mont St Michel for over 14 years. We've watched the rhythm, the ebb and flow of the tides, the locals, the tourists, and the accommodations that fill and empty seasonally ... We've listened to stories of people who come from far away just to see the splendor of the Mont ... others who come for a quick weekend from the UK ... all who come are drawn for a dozen reasons. Whatever that draw is for you, discover the bounty of this region. If you are wanting to visit Mont St Michel, perhaps on its own for an extended stay or for an overnight -- or coming off the Normandy Beaches (1.5 hours away) it will not disappoint. With my tour you can choose between 2-3 suggested accommodations, hire a private guide for the Abbey (she is fluent French, German, and English), eat well, and sleep

A Day on Lake Como, Italy

With the shape of a large capsized 'y', Lake Como, fed by the river Adda, is considered one of the most picturesque pre-alpine lakes of Lombardy, in Northern Italy. Como, located on the western end of the lake, framed by the mountains, is a pretty town with an ancient history. This itinerary “Como: A Day on the Lake” is organized in two parts to take advantage of the day as much as possible. In the morning, a short trip with the ferry boat on the line “Navigazione Laghi” will allow you to discover the first part of the western shore of the lake, punctuated with charming villages with little Romanesque churches and luxurious villas overlooking the lake. You can get off at two stops and have time to immerse yourself in the typical atmosphere of the lake. We have chosen two very different villages, Moltrasio and Cernobbio, to help you discover both a place a bit off the beaten track and one of the most touristic resorts on the lake. In the afternoon, you can go back to Como and have a walk in the historical center of this ancient city, discovering its numerous monuments as well as some of its more typical products. The programme of the day has been carefully planned so that you can see the most interesting attractions as if you were accompanied by a local guide and have time to enjoy the magnificent views of the lake. The walking is not too much and there are a lot of chances to take a break. You just need a little of curiosity and enthusiasm to discover some of the most beautiful and typical Italian landscapes.

Learn fun facts from an experienced tour guide while experiencing the best the city has to offer. Samples from Itinerary "Jenever is a traditional alcoholic drink from the 1600s. The way to drink it is to have the shot sitting on the bar, and with no hands sipping the almost overflowing bubble of liquid, (more civilized than Spring Break style though). From there it’s sipped to enjoy the range of flavors. This pub’s décor is from the 16th century, and has a distillery, workshops and tasting rooms. Not only is the name of the pub itself humorous (Wynandfockink), but each mixture has its own name and character. One example is Bride’s Tears and a personal favorite is Half and Half, originally a mistake in the factory until they tried it!" Amsterdam Made Easy: A 3-Day Guide

Ever had that feeling when visiting a new city of wanting to explore and discover without the restrictions of time consuming tour guides? Looking for something that gets straight to the point, without sorting through the city’s many attractions, landmarks and eateries to give you an honest and clear guide? Then this itinerary is just what you’re looking for! You will experience the best of what Amsterdam has to offer, with some touches of local knowledge to help you along the way. Here is a taste of what this guide offers: Picturesque canals and gorgeous architecture Navigating Amsterdam’s mazy streets and winding canals can be overwhelming at times for experienced travellers and first time tourists alike. By providing clear directions, specific maps and local advice this guide will prove to be a useful tool for enjoying the city’s diverse and vibrant atmosphere without the added worry of getting lost. And, to really get to grips with daily Dutch life, you will have the chance to experience the city by the nation’s primary mode of transport: the bicycle! Immerse yourself in Dutch culture With so much to see and (usually) so little time to see it, it is important to get the most out of your visit to Amsterdam. Of course, like most major cities, many of the main attractions require entrance fees and it is difficult to know which attractions are worth the ticket fee, and which are hidden tourist traps! Maybe you intend to visit some of the city’s numerous museums, but you are unsure about the best times to go, or which museums are recommended more than others; did you know, for example, there is a card which gives you access to all the museums for a set price? Often it is the little things that can make a big difference during your travelling – whether it is food, landmarks or museums, use this itinerary to give you a leg up as you tour the city! This itinerary provides in-depth guides (walking, cycling and public transport) to the following areas: Dam Square Jordaan D

An Insider's Guide to the Best of London in 3 Days

London is a vast city that can take months to explore, and just when you thought you’d got a handle on it, everything shifts. A new neighborhood comes into fashion, new bars open and new trends pop up (like pop-up restaurants, pop-up boutiques and pop-up galleries); only to burst like a bubble. But follow this 3-day itinerary and you will see many of London’s most famous buildings and get the lowdown on some hidden spots. It's a great itinerary for first-time visitors, but also good for repeat visitors who want to combine London's huge history with a bit of local color. And talking of locals; Londoners have a reputation for being aloof. It’s a bit unfair, and mainly due to the fact that they are all so damn busy. If they see you struggling with a map, they’ll rarely stop to help. But if you ask, they’ll go out of their way to set you straight; and be ever-so-polite as they do so.

Belgrade: 7 Days of History on Foot

You live on the edge, have a penchant for strange history and you're the hippest cat around. Let's face it, big crowds of tourists aren't your thing but a beer with a local is, then it's off to Belgrade for you my friend. You've read some books and you've taken some classes, but you won't know the history of Belgrade until you've seen it with your own eyes. This is the tour for you. Student? Wandering artist? Budget traveler? No worries, every site is either free or under $5. A city divided not just by the convergence of the Danube, but by the ideology of the people. At least that is how this former Yugoslav capital is portrayed in the media, but how could the media qualify a city with over a thousand years of history? Each neighborhood in the eclectic metropolis stands as an emblem to Belgrade’s past: whether it is the commandeered communist structures, the Ottoman Empire neighborhood of Dorchol, the old Austro-Hungarian village of Zemun, WWII occupation or the ruins of NATO bombings, the city stands as a meeting point between the deceased empires of East and West. This itinerary will give you a skeleton plan for a history-themed walking tour through the “White City.” Remember that Belgrade’s history is built upon itself and to get some perspective on the realities of what’s happened here, you must leave the beaten path from time to time; because much of the beauty history left behind is displayed to the public, but the more recent stories of the city’s people is spray-painted on the walls down side streets, or discussed in kafanas over rakija. So, some itinerary days will give you the grand tour, while others will lead you down the road less traveled. And perhaps, after the tour, you’ll be able to understand the complexities of living in a world where a turbulent past is a present reality. Almost every attraction is free or under $5. Before starting your tour, remember that there are two things that Serbia is famous for: its food and its people; take time with the

Best of Warsaw 2-Day Itinerary

Most tourists just pass Warsaw by on their way to splendid Cracow or the charming seaport Gdansk. They listen to opinions of many Poles who say their capital is ugly. Well guess what, IT'S NOT TRUE! :) Warsaw may not be the most beautiful city in Poland, but it certainly is the most interesting, not only in our country but in the whole of Central Europe! Young, creative, hipster, with thriving culture, dozens of festivals, crowded pubs on every corner, and quiet places to hide from the city buzz. Did you know that Warsaw is the only capital in Europe with an unregulated river shore? Instead of concrete, Paris-like coast, you have nice, yellow-sand beaches and wild bushes around them with some magical places to see the sunset. If you want to experience the real Warsaw , and understand why locals love it so much , this itinerary is for you! You cannot feel the city spirit without knowing about it's tragic past. Did you know that in early 1945 there were only about 1000 inhabitants living in the ruins of what used to be a 1 million person city? We do not like to talk about it too often, but this is the reason that we believe our city is unique. But don't worry about the history, our itinerary is well balanced between past, present, and future. :) I recommend the best touristic spots, favored especially by Warsovians, the most popular clubs, and eateries. Not too many museums, no churches – you can find them in any typical guidebook. Following the route provided, after two days you'll feel in Warsaw like at home. This itinerary is for anybody's pocket, as Poles are very good in money saving. :) Although as every capital, Warsaw is more expensive than other cities in Poland, it's still very cheap compared to the West. What's more, I'll give you tips how to communicate fast and for free. :)

If none of the above applies, throw in your enthusiasm and start discovering medieval fortifications, romantic citadels, dramatic fortresses, legendary castles, impressive fortified churches, unspoilt nature, timeless customs and traditions, delicious food, a plethora of adventures and activities, in a land that welcomes you first of all through its people.

Landscape, Food, & Trulli: 1 Week in Puglia, the Valle d'Itria, and Matera

Puglia is a region of Italy that still preserves elements of “la bella vita” – Italian life as we imagine it from black and white movies starring Sophia Loren… rustic landscapes, charming farmers, and ample local food. In the heel of the boot, it’s where you can stay in a prehistorically shaped stone hut called a “trullo” and witness a procession of barefoot penitents at Eastertime. Although many rental properties in the area are owned by Brits and a few years ago Puglia was declared “the new Tuscany,” this is still a region in which you can feel like you’ve discovered something. This guide is based on repeated trips to the area in the past decade, and seeks to reproduce my own sense of discovery in Puglia. Less packed with cultural and artistic “must-sees” than the rest of Italy, it’s an area that is perhaps best appreciated while getting lost on tiny roads bordered by mortarless stone fences and tasting local delicacies while enjoying the true hospitality of its people. This guide suggests which towns to visit, a few things to observe in each, a list of local foods (the restaurants are almost all good) and some other tips. This itinerary suggests 6 days of trips including the UNESCO heritage sites of Matera (in Basilicata) and Alberobello, the "white" towns of the Valle d'Itria - Locorotondo and Martina Franca, the seaside city of Taranto, the fabulous grottoes at Castellana and the jewel of a seaside town, Polignano a Mare. Proposed as a day-by-day itinerary with suggestions about what to see and eat, you may of course choose to switch around the order of visits, or simply spend some days relaxing at the beach or at your hotel or rental property. A list of beaches, things to eat, important local events, and other practical information is provided in the appendix. The style of travel is relaxed , appropriate for couples, groups of adults traveling together, or families. A car is required (it’s needed in order to get lost!). The itinerary assumes a centrally locate

Lausanne 1-Day Tour Itinerary

The Swiss love to walk and Lausanne is a city best experienced on foot. Having developed an ability to walk uphill in impractical shoes, the women in Lausanne have earned the reputation of having the best legs in Switzerland! Having lived in the region for 10 years, Lausanne is one of my favourite cities in the country. So it is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the one-day walking itinerary for Lausanne - a city where only tourists are forgiven for getting around in a comfortable pair of shoes! Why Lausanne? Lausanne has an understated elegance. It’s a chic, conservative city that often gets overlooked on international tours in favour of other Swiss cities like Zurich or Lucerne. Yet this is the city that is internationally recognized as the capital of the Olympic movement and its local property is sought after by the rich and famous for its location on the shores of beautiful Lake Léman. It is convenient in its location with boats leaving regularly for France on the other side of the lake and it’s just half an hour from Geneva. In the summer the city shows why it is known for its art de vivre and there is nothing more delicious than taking in an outdoor concert or a leisurely stroll against one of the most magnificent of backdrops you will ever find. In the winter Lausanne is one of those cities where there is nothing nicer to do than find a warm, cosy café or restaurant to have a drink or dinner. Why this itinerary? The itinerary is designed to take you through the main sights of downtown Lausanne. In all, there is about 2 hours of walking and I have tried where possible to include the nearest metro stop! Dining in the city is an experience in itself and I have tried to choose restaurants that are easy on the wallet. While Lausanne is quite a conservative city, I’ve also tried to point out it’s more quirky aspects such as the transparent public toilet in the Place du Flon and the time crier who carries out a centuries old tradition every night from 10:0

Lisbon in 3 Days: Budget Itinerary

Lisbon was founded by the Romans 2100 years ago and spreads across steep hillsides that overlook the Tagus River. Being one of the oldest cities in the world it is filled with monuments from different styles and times , but its real treasures are the traditional neighborhoods that line these hills and that is what is usually not shown in regular guide books. In this itinerary I take you strolling around its small alleys and cobbled streets, having a glimpse of the river at every corner on one side, and S. Jorge´s castle on the other, and seeing how the city that was once considered “immovable” has managed to evolve without losing its character. As a local (I'm Portuguese and have lived in Lisbon all my life) I can show you what is relevant to get to understand the city and separate it from what is purely for tourists eyes. I also filter all the monuments that exist to advise only the most relevant ones, so you're not wasting time and money seeing similar things several times. The itinerary has maps for all of the neighbourhoods showing the exact path you should take and the location of all the sites/monuments I recommend along with some pictures to give you extra orientation. You will see/feel/taste: Lisbon´s historic and traditional neighbourhoods (Pena, Alfama, Bica, Bairro Alto, Príncipe Real, Campo de Ourique among others) Comercial and historical Downtown (Baixa and Chiado) Amazing views from several viewpoints with diferent perspectives The most relevant monuments (S. Jorge´s Castle; Carmo ruins, Sto Estevão Church, National Pantheom, Jerónimos Monastery, Belém tower and others) Some museums (Water museum, Design museum, Ancient Art museum) that reflect Lisbon's not only historical but also cultural evolution The pause for "café" and a cake The nightlife, with tips from the places where the locals hang out. Traditional and International food with tips not only for cheap and traditional restaurants but also for what to eat in them An inexpensive boat cross of t

London 1-Day Literary Highlights

A typical day in London might involve Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Harrod's, or the British Museum. Even if you've visited London before, this itinerary will give you a new perspective into London's authors and poets. London is a city full of history, where some of the UK’s finest writers lived and wrote. London for Free :: Three-Day Tour

London might be known as one of the world’s most expensive cities, but it actually offers more free activities than most places in the world. This itinerary is designed so that you don't have to spend a penny on anything other than food and drink, though we do show you how to get free food on days one and two. It's intended for budget travelers and bargain hunters. Enter some of London’s most-loved museums like Victoria and Albert , Natural History Museum and the National Gallery at no cost. See sights like Abbey Road and the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace for free. Learn how to get into St. Paul’s Cathedral and Houses of Parliament, two activities that usually cost over £15, for absolutely nothing. Let me take you to some monumental sites in the city that you would normally need to hire a guide or go on a tour to know about. I even give you ways to find free theater performances, live music and comedy. This itinerary is packed with all of London’s biggest attractions, like Shakespeare’s Globe , Harrods and Big Ben, as well as some things you might not have heard about if you’re not from here, like Regent’s Canal, the real location of the Globe Theater and Postman’s Park. Not only will this guide lead you to the most important places in London, but it will explain the history of the city and the importance of each stop. To keep things free, this itinerary will have you walking around London instead of using the Tube. Most sights and attractions are not far from one another, but be aware that it involves a lot of walking. The tour may include a lot of walking (about three miles per day), but it won't feel that way as we'll be stopping by several sights and activities. I recommend doing this tour in the Spring, Summer or Autumn, as it will have you outdoors a lot, but it can also be used in the Winter with slight modifications. The itinerary is designed to help you fit in as much as possible over three days, but feel free to change it to fit your needs. Be

London's Historic City Wall Walk (1-2 days)

Did you know that London was occupied by the Romans? Did you know that they built a wall around the Old City of London? Did you also know that some of that wall still exists today?! If you're planning a trip to this massive city, you will probably be told of all the usual sightseeing places to visit (& there are a lot!). If you are interested in history then this is the itinerary for you. Come with me as I take you on a walk around London's ancient city wall. Along the way, I'll point out tourist sights as well as "unknown" London which includes hidden gems down alleyways and rarely known facts about buildings and areas. This itinerary can be done in either one day or two days, depending how long you wish to stay at each attraction. If you just wish to walk the wall then 1 day is enough. If you wish to take your time and see everything then 2 days is recommended. You can walk the wall and visit some places on this itinerary completely free of charge. If you visit everything in this itinerary then you can expect to spend £40 per person (US $70 / €50) plus any food you wish to purchase along the way. Only three places in this itinerary charge admission fees (The Tower of London, The Guildhall Art Gallery, and St Paul's Cathedral).

London's South Bank - Off the Beaten Track 1-Day Tour

London is a VERY large city, for several centuries the world’s largest. It is also a hugely popular tourist destination. Well known sites like Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace (when it is open, and the streets nearby even when it’s not) are very crowded. Just walking down the street you’ll hear many foreign languages being spoken. This guide is deliberately intended to take you to a fascinating part of the city which is not quite so busy, but packed with both historical importance and current action. It’s planned to be first of a series. Every itinerary needs a dramatic starting point and an exclamation point to end it. So why not begin with Tower Bridge, set for many movies, including the dramatic scenes from Sherlock Holmes, and end with London’s most recognizable sight, Big Ben. We’ll include glimpses of the modern; The Tate Modern and Millennium Bridge; The London Eye; and historical reference points like The Globe Theatre, St. Paul’s Cathedral and St. Saviour’s (Southwark Cathedral). And because London is fast becoming one of the world’s best gourmet dining centers, the itinerary includes a stop at the legendary but also very up to date Borough Market (if you schedule this itinerary on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, plus some dining recommendations along the way). Some activities will require advance reservation, e.g. The London Eye, The Globe Theatre. Others are open only on a few days each week, e.g. The Borough Market. The Itinerary - Overview Starting out from Tower Bridge you’ll explore the South Bank of the River Thames where modern buildings have taken the place of structures that were destroyed by heavy bombing in the 2nd World War, but many historical buildings survived or have been restored. This fascinating part of London is often missed. Along the way, the north shore of the Thames is filled with interesting vistas and tempting detours – by all means be tempted if you’re in the mood for crossing the magnificent but controvers

London's Villages - A 3-day itinerary exploring Hampstead, Marylebone and Notting Hill

"When a man is tired of London, he's tired of life, for there is in London, all that life can afford." So goes the famous saying from Samuel Johnson, back in 1777, but it is just as true today. This guide is aimed at those visitors who wish to wander London's cobbled back streets and narrow alleys like a local. Focusing in on three of London's most attractive villages - Hampstead, Marylebone and Notting Hill - it will draw the reader away from the mainstream into a secret London that few visitors see. You might be a first-time visitor to the UK's capital seeking something a little different, or you may have already ticked off the city's must-sees and are now ready for more. Either way, delve into a world of lesser known architectural gems and museums, stroll through some of London's most beautiful green spaces and uncover some of the tales and secrets of the past. Find yourself where the painter Constable is buried, the house where Charles Dickens lived and where Bob Marley laid down Exodus. Learn why Sherlock Holmes really couldn't have lived at 221B Baker Street, how Notting Hill was once London's worst slum and where to stargaze in Hampstead. Each route truly is an eclectic mix, as is London itself, of course. Those on a tight budget will enjoy walking the routes and seeing London free of charge, while others will wish to visit the recommended attractions and eateries along the way. The routes are easily achieved at a strolling pace, leaving you plenty of time to shop, savour the views and linger over coffee. Each day's itinerary begins and ends at a Tube station making it easy to reach wherever you are staying. Clear maps and colour photographs signpost your route so you won't miss a thing. The days can be done in any order and work as standalone itineraries should you wish to dip into just one. It's time to find out what Samuel Johnson wrote about all those years ago.

MADchester - A Local's 3-Day Guide To Manchester

England's second city both in terms of its size and cultural influence, Manchester is the city that has inspired generations both past and present. The centre of the industrial revolution in the 19th Century, Manchester has always been innovative. The home of the world's first passenger railway station, this is the city where the atom was first split, where Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote the Communist Manifesto and where the first modern computer was developed. In modern day, it has become the music capital of the nation, with artists such as Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Smiths calling the city home. Perhaps best known internationally for its leading football clubs, Manchester United and Manchester the city have dominated the English Premier League, between them winning the competition 14 times since its inception 21 years ago. Yet in spite of its historical contributions, Manchester is a city that looks forward rather than back. Modern glass buildings intertwine with historical points of significance. This itinerary takes you on a journey through the past, straight through the modern day and beyond. You will learn of the history of this fascinating city and discover how Manchester was at the forefront of forming the world we live in today.

Málaga, Spain – 2-Day Tour from the Moors to Picasso

UPDATED FOR 2015. Details include the brand new galleries - The Pompidou and The Russian Museum - which are helping to really put Málaga on the map. Málaga is one of the oldest cities in the world with its history dating back to the Phoenicians in the eighth century BCE. It is an elegant, vibrant and interesting city and has been the home and birthplace of many famous people including Pablo Picasso and Antonio Banderas. Are you a lover of art and history? Then this is the itinerary for you! The itinerary focuses on the area around the port and the old town of Málaga. Day One takes in the east side and Day Two the west side. Both days have a mixture of art, museums and sights. Included in the itinerary are: Museum of Popular Arts and Customs This quaint museum is often missed, which is the loss of others but not you! With open displays shown in a Moorish-influenced old tavern, you get to see the Málaga of yesteryear for only 4 Euros.. These are just tasters of a delicious 2 days. Also included are: The Pablo Picasso Museum The Carmen thyssen museum Málaga Cathedral Alcazaba and Roman Theatre Castel Gibralfaro The Bullring Contemporary Art Gallery Restaurant Recommendations The itinerary has been split into two days allowing ample time for the sights to be taken in without rushing. Mijas - One Day Tour of an Andalucían White Village

Nestled in the Mijas mountains is the pueblo blanco (white town) of Mijas. A popular tourist attraction, it has still managed to retain its charm and authentic feel with narrow cobbled streets running between white-washed buildings. For the feel of an Andalucían mountain village, Mijas is one not to miss. This single-day itinerary is suitable for all ages and interests due to the variety of places you will visit - from small churches and shrines, donkeys, a miniature museum, wine museum and artisan good shops amongst others. Many of the attractions are free, and those you do have to pay for are very reasonably priced: the itinerary will suit any budget. You will need to be able to walk for a few hours but there are plenty of opportunities to rest and absorb the village's charm. For those who wish to walk a little further, there is an additional section in the appendix. I have been visiting Mijas for decades, lived in the municipality and have yet to tire of its charm. I'll show you both the popular sights and those that few visit, as well as recommending some of the top places to eat and drink. Mijas awaits you!

Mostar - A City with Soul in 1 Day

There is always something bringing me back to Mostar and to Bosnia. After all, there are the challenging rapids to cater to the needs of the adventurers, the charm of the old medieval citadels for the romantics to indulge, the fresh tastes and aromas to attract the gourmands, and the captivating mix of cultures and identities to appeal to all history buffs out there. A very good Bosnian friend of mine would always tell me that Mostar is a city with soul. It was that precise amazing vibe given away by Mostar that hooked me and fascinated me ever since I first laid foot there: the history in the whitish stone of the Old City and Bridge, the purity of the light - dim or bright - all over the city, the turquoise shine of mysterious Neretva, and the welcoming and kind hearts of the people. What can you do but fall in love with Mostar? Pictures © Marcel Băncilă

Paris 1-Day Itinerary - Streets of Montmartre

This itinerary is perfect for anyone seeking an authentic exploration of one of Paris' key neighbourhoods. Take in all the key sights and little-known treasures of this stunning area, all the while avoiding the unpleasant souvenir-strewn streets and crowds of tourists. Montmartre sits high in the north of Paris and evokes an intimate village atmosphere. Once the home to many artists, from Van Gogh to Picasso to Dali, these picturesque streets remain a key source of inspiration for modern day painters, photographers, filmmakers and writers. Art is just the beginning of Montmartre’s infinite charm. The spirit of La Belle Epoque lingers in the many neighbourhood bars and cafes that line the hip and inviting Rue des Abbessess. Soak up the unique Bohemian flavour that makes Montmartre so irresistible to Parisians and visitors alike, as I introduce you to the corners of this enchanting village that keep the locals coming back, time after time. With my insider’s knowledge you’ll avoid an exhausting and uninspiring climb up the steep steps to the Sacre Coeur, and instead be rewarded with a breathtaking view of this architectural wonder that you’d otherwise never see. Follow me as we take the back streets, far from the tourist trail to discover the hidden gems and iconic sights of this special pocket of Paris, from a different angle. Enjoy a visit to one of Paris’ oft-overlooked museums and explore Paris’ ‘other’ cemetery, boasting twice the charm and half the crowds. Get an authentic taste for Paris with a gourmet lunch at one of my favourite Parisian haunts. Dine elbow to elbow with local villagers as you sample fine French food at an exceptional price. Stop off for a drink in a famous café, before dining at one of Paris’ best-kept secrets this evening. If you have any questions at all, my email address is provided in the itinerary. I look forward to sharing my best tips and hottest Parisian addresses with you!

Paris to Chartres Cathedral: 1-Day Tour Itinerary

There is something about Chartres… I’ve been coming and going to Chartres for over twenty years now. I know the streets, the tuckaways, the tourist grabbers, and what not to miss. For many people, Chartres is still a well-kept secret, although the people who are discovering it year by year grow in number. Perhaps the most well-preserved Gothic cathedral on Earth, Chartres is a one-hour train ride south of Paris and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Consider a breakaway from Paris for the day...you don't need a car in Chartres! Or better yet, wrap a weekend around one full day dedicated to taking in the splendor, grace, and beauty of Chartres. With hindsight, you may just want to come again! Here, you will stand as witness to beauty everywhere; from how the cathedral itself is the binding for the book of glass... to how ancient artisans laid their finest work in every turn over centuries – but left no mark... to turning around and facing an ancient wall that has been maintained and nurtured throughout the centuries, leaving you gawking in awe. And the glass? It simply takes your breath away. It's true; I love Chartres. But so can you. This is a small, bourgeoning, walkabout, medieval city with the Cathédrale du Notre Dame de Chartres at its heart. It is a perfect place to spend the day. A one-hour train ride south of Paris, the walk from the station is 10 minutes to the cathedral and bustling town. It's hard to miss - the two towers of the cathedral soar above the town. Explore the wealth of history, from the architectural wonder of the flying buttresses... to the mysteries of the cosmos embedded in stone. You'll discover not just the cathedral but the town itself and the people who live here are proud keepers of their inheritance. Feel a part of the vibe here; from the Saturday market to boutique shops, the good eats from brasseries to fine dining – and if you time it right, you may well stumble upon some special event the city itself is sponsoring at or around the c

Climb Torre del Mangia, explore Siena's backstreets, visit the underground maze of the Santa Maria della Scala museum or admire more Renaissance m

The 007 James Bond Day Tour of London

James Bond sure does get around. Since Ian Fleming first created the famous secret agent in 1952, he's popped up in Hong Kong, Cuba, Germany, South Africa and more. But, there is no better place to see 007 than in the country that he's fighting for, mother England. With MI6 based in London, you can bet he shows up in the country's capital city quite often. Today, you're going to see exactly where. The 007 James Bond Tour of London will have you visiting Ian Fleming's former hangouts, significant places in Bond's character building and of course film locations from Dr. No (1962), Goldfinger (1964), Live and Let Die (1973), Octopussy (1983), The World is not Enough (1999), Die Another Day (2002), Quantum of Solace (2008) and Skyfall (2012). You'll get to try Bond's drink of choice from its birthplace, cruise down the River Thames and maybe even climb The O2 . The tour runs from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., starting in North Greenwich and ending near Piccadilly Circus , so there are plenty of restaurants, theaters and bars within reach for the night. Each location comes with a description of how it contributes to James Bond and a Youtube video, if available. You won't visit every Bond location in London, but a choice few. You'll walk a maximum of three miles on this tour, as well as use the Tube at least twice. I recommend purchasing an Oyster Card to use public transportation in London for this tour, as it's the cheapest option and offers discounts on other activities. You should dress business casual as you'll be visiting a nicer establishment at the end of this tour, but make sure to wear comfortable shoes. This tour has been put together by a London local and Bond enthusiast. I'm a freelance writer and professional travel blogger based in London, so I get to see quite a bit of the city and all it has to offer. I've used my own knowledge of the city as well as James Bond films, books and articles about the series, to help me pick out the best places to visit on this tour. Y

The Best of Edinburgh: A 3-Day Journey from Tourist to Local

Welcome to Edinburgh—Auld Reekie, the Athens of the North, the City Built on Top of Seven Hills! It’s the birthplace of economics and Harry Potter; the summer hangout of the Queen; the home of the Stone of Destiny, Dolly the Sheep, and deep-fried Mars bars. Edinburgh is a bona fide gem: it encapsulates Scotland's progressive past, presents world class art and entertainment, and offers a glimpse at the nation’s rugged landscapes (bonus: best enjoyed from extinct volcanoes that loom over the city's horizon). Working as a certified historical guide in Edinburgh's Old Town, it is my privilege and pleasure to share a true local's experience and make each visitor feel at home in the royal heart of Scotland. Tips: Pack warm clothes and comfortable shoes (public transportation is not necessary to explore one of the most compact and walking-friendly cities in Europe), a raincoat (the rumors are true, though rainstorms tend to be brief showers with rainbows often following suit; it's also a windy city, so save your umbrella), and a camera (whether you're an expert or a novice, the frequently changing light—and weather—offers exceptional photographic opportunities). This itinerary is designed to help you make the absolute most out of your time in Edinburgh. Using a local’s perspective means you save money where you can—“free” is a word used frequently in this guide—so you can indulge where you should. You’ll be invited to high tea at the swankiest hotel in town, and then feast your eyes on breathtaking views overlooking Salisbury crags—and that’s just one afternoon. If you're keen to enjoy famous art, live music, dynamic history, tasty food, quirky tales, and hillside hikes then this is the guide is for you! Join me on a three-day tour that captures Edinburgh's best, by day and by night, and beckons you to explore the mysterious treasures tucked away in its nooks in crannies—where the magic awaits.
